You may choose to fish the crack of dawn with eight weights
and poppers and gurglers. Thousands of acres of pristine,
clear water, over turtle grass flats (that the specs love)
are available within a short ride of your hotel. Speckled
trout are renown for their willingness to strike top water
flies. Some say the crashing strike on top water is the
most exciting part of flyfishing. As the sun climbs usually
the bite can be extended by replacing the poppers with sinking
flies and some times even sink-tip lines.
During the early spring we begin to target Spanish Mackeral.
These guys school up in the bays and provide marvelous sport.
When you find them...you usually hook quite a number of
them. They are very "toothy", so you need a small
wire or heavy mono bite tippet. Six weights and #8 glass
minnows are often the combo. |
